Description:

Appearance:

Kayle is a human male of average height with a lean build. Being Hapan born, he is considered quite attractive: he has smooth features and a strong gaze; rarely sporting more facial hair than the occasional bit of stubble, vibrant green eyes stand out against his pale skin. His hair is notably darker than the average Hapan, although few are aware of the fact since Hapan society remains intentionally isolated within the transitory mists. Although usually modestly styled, Kayle sometimes allows his hair to become dishevelled when performing tasks within a combat zone.

His physical appearance and habit of becoming emotionally expressionless during stressful or high-concentration situations lead some of Coruscant's elite to refer to him as "Statuesque," although he can be quite amicable in a purely social setting.

Infiltration:

Kayle appears to be, at first glance, an aspiring young diplomat working for an independent firm known as the Galactic Ambassadorial Federation(GAF). A firm that serves thousands of systems from various factions on a contract basis. In actuallity Kayle is a member of the Sith Order known as an Infiltrator. Trained from a young age, Infiltrators are educated and molded to fill a particular profession in republic society and emulate that false-life as perfectly as possible. All the while they serve as spies, recruiters, and clandestine financiers of the Sith Empire. It is speculated by many that such secret operatives were central to the events immediately prior to the Sacking of Coruscant.

Sith don't always appear as expected
Sith don't always appear as expected
Although Infiltrators true loyalties lie with the Empire, the nature of their work often requires them to work openly against the Sith, making them targets for retribution. None outside the Dark Council itself know the identity of all Infiltrators; each is given over to a handler (in the case of non force sensitives) and semi-traditional masters in the case of force sensitives...the rest of the Sith Order at large generally remains oblivious to their existence and function.

They often become targets of their own faction making one of the truest tests of an infiltrator's abilities the same as all others: surviving the cunning and wrath of their brothers and sisters.

Skills/Attributes:

Although a skilled diplomat, Kayle is also force sensitive and so received a Sith Master, the Lady Feiros, as his handler. She instructed him in the manipulation of the Force and advanced melee combat including the use of two lightsabers.

Despite her skilled guidance and uncharacteristic patience Kayle is naturally deficient in the Force. He seems limited to passive abilities such as enhanced perception and muscle control/enhancement, and the ability to easily and quickly supress his connection to the Force. Of the offensive forms taught by the Sith, Kayle has only been able to become adept at Telekinesis, but this includes several basic skills (grip, throw, pull, choke). Additionally, he has not been permitted to interact with other members of the Sith Order and so his combat skills in a duel remain mostly untested save against programmed combat droids. Although his diplomatic work often brings him into conflict zones, sometimes prompting him to fight, Kayle prefers to make skillful use of blasters rather than revealing his Force sensitivity. It is unclear how he would fair in a match against a practiced Jedi or Sith.

Despite this uncertainty, his passive ability to augment his body through the Force makes him particulary effective as a practitioner of Ataru and he should not be written off.

His strongest skill is his lifelong practice of deception...the keen intelect necessary to deceive multiple factions on a daily basis and still function as an active spy make him dangerous, particularly so should he every be "fully" brought into the folds of the Sith. Kayle himself has come to beleive that his other deficiencies are sufficient enough that, were they not balanced by his cunning, the Dark Council would have eliminated him long ago.

Equipment/Apparel:

Kayle's attire changes noticeably to suite his needs. He has a wide array of formal attire in various styles from across the Galaxy, tending to shy away from Coruscanti high fassion. The apparant excess suites his roll perfectly but he is most comfortable when on field assignment when he can dress in more "casual" styles. His preference is for a light armor set consisting of black leather boots, light brown pants, a light brown tunic, shin guards, a single gauntlet, and a gray cloak.

The tunic has one full length sleeve on the left side, the right is sleeveless. Kayle's data gauntlet is attached to his left arm and provides quick holonet, communication, and mapping functions via a miniature holo display system. While useful for diplomatic coordination it is most beneficial for quickly and securely slicing, data management and other espionage related tasks. The shin guards and data gauntlet are made of a light but durable dark gray metal with a slight cortosis weave; each piece is intricately patterned in twisting black designs. The patterns help to mask the presence of Kayle's lightsabers, which are located in holsters on the right shin guard and the data gauntlet. Each blade is designed to mirror not only the patterned gray and black of his armor, but the curving flow of each piece as well. Because of this the emitter and base ends of each saber curve into narrower points.

Kayle carries a modified Czerka issue blaster. The blaster can fire an additional shot before a new cell is needed and has been upgraded to burn hotter than most. The pistol was only concealed by his cloak and kept in a cortosis weave holster strapped over the young man's heart.

During the events of the Coruscant Senate assassinations Kayle was forced into a bit of change. Through channels with the Exchange, Imperial Intelligence provided him with a set of Czerka gear: a psycho-reactive mask and a small, low power hold-out blaster. The combination seemed odd at first but through experimentation Kayle came to understand that the mask significantly augmented his ability to target and fire accurately at range, thus increasing the damage of ranged weapons. He may not be able to power through a set of arm, but with the help of the mask and further guidance from the Force it became easier to target weak points. It was speculated that this plus his minor abilities with the Force were the reason the equipment was given to him. In addition, the mask made it easier to hide his identity in certain situations.

Again during the events of Coruscant, Kayle was forced into further change. His cloak, a preferred piece in his engagements and seedy dealings, was destroyed in a fire fight with at-the-time-unknown contract assailants. Taking this as something of a sign, the young infiltrator requisitioned new gear from the Empire.

Character:

Personality:

On the surface Kayle Tas is an amiable but driven individual looking to excel as an advisor (and to please his master). But deep beneath the surface he is an intensely troubled individual, seemingly broken by his experiences. He might even be considered clinically insane often having internal conversations between the warring desires and teachings of Republic law and Sith "ethics".

The emotions raised by his internal struggle were so intense that he quickly trained his mind to lock them away from the world behind a mental wall of apathy, which acts as a filter. When entering a situation he debates or argues, in his core, what approach to take. Each decision is quickly separated from its underlying emotional trigger (by the apathetic filter) and is then compared to the situation and the desired outcome. Once an appropriate response is chosen an emotion is reapplied to fit the need.

It is this process that has led him to appear cold when concentrating...to speak plainly, he is cold. Kayle lacks passion and instead replaces it with the facade of passion, an incredible deficiency in a Sith.

Personal Relationships:

Kayle has had no true friends, only those who believe they are his. Having been removed from his home as a baby he has no memory of his parents. The one individual in his life to whom he held any kind of open emotional connection is Lady Feiros, whom he views as a mother.

Professional Relationships:

"Complex" and "confusing" are two words that accurately describe the relationship the young Hapan shares with the Republic and Sith, the Republic especially. As an infiltrator, Kayle is an enemy of and parasite within the very heart of Republic space even operating on Coruscant itself. Simultaneously, the need to maintain cover as a skilled ambassador ensures that he performs many actions that are in direct support of the Republic. It can be a difficult balance to maintain as it forces the adoption of two identities: "neutral" ambassador and shadowy sith agent.

Such a task (acting as a sith agent even while masquerading as a Republic ally) is not easy; however, affiliation with the intergovernmental organization (IGO) known as the Galactic Ambassadorial Federation (GAF) has allowed him to maintain a degree of distance from both factions. This distance better facilitates the dual nature of the infiltrator's work.

Affiliation with the GAF is an odd positioning for an infiltrator. Technically it lies outside the direct jurisdiction of both faction governments and thus tends to receive a more critical eye from both. Closer examination reveals the motivations of Imperial Intelligence. After the Sacking of Coruscant the Jedi retreated to Tython and the temple was left in ruins. The scar on the city skyline was a reminder of the scar between the order and the Republic itself; some blamed the Jedi for failing to stop the Emperor and the order itself needed time to heal. The result was strained relations between the Force users and the ones they served. The role of the Jedi as ambassadors and agents of the Republic diminished, allowing GAF and others like it, to move closer to the heart of galactic affairs. Certain IGOs and guilds (even some mercenary) became more accepted as societal necessities for stability. When society adopts such mindsets it is more willing to overlook certain inconsistencies...and that was the beauty of Kayle's position: the needs of GAFs many clients often masked the otherwise obvious subversive tactics Kayle Tas employs.

Beliefs:

Kayle has ever been a changeling of sorts. His beliefs change to fit the immediate need of whatever part he must play. Having had contact only briefly with the Council and most often with his master, the young Infiltrator has an idealized and generally untested opinion of the Sith. Years of spoon-fed propaganda have enabled him to rationalize the actions of republic citizens and view them as stagnant. He has found many dependable "friends" among the republic but sees their dependability as the shadow of stagnation and rot. To truly accept their kindness would be to invalidate his own purpose. However, his master, too, has always been kind to him and so he finds himself at a logical impasse quickly tucked beneath his mental barriers.

In the end, the beliefs of Kayle Tas are the beliefs of the Dark Council...and they would have it no other way.

Appearances in Fiction:

Late thread introduction - Directed to take an advisory contract with the planetary government of Ryolth, Kayle observes the cities demise into Sith antagonized riots. Ordered to aid the republic in any way possible Kayle becomes genuinely startled by the last portion of his mission.

A series of assassinations involving outspoken senators have been baffling Coruscanti security...but the Sith seem just as curious. Who is to blame for these disturbing events?

Quotes/Mottos:

History:

Fit for Royalty:

Born to a noble family of the Hapes Cluster, Kayle was quickly identified as Force sensitive by his nurse. Glana, was a former attendant of the Sith Empire but had fallen out of favor with a ship captain. Twisting her reputation he had all but run her from the Imperial service. Beaten but not broken, Glana believed recruiting others to the true cause might gain her favor with the Sith once more. Glana did not wish to reveal herself to her mistress, so she begged her and the boy's father to have Kayle tested. They refused on the grounds that "the Consortium did not deal with anyone outside the transitory mists unless the need was inescapable."

Thwarted, the nurse devised a new strategy: planting seeds of dissent and delusions of grandeur for the next two years, Glana convinced her mistress to lead a coup against the Queen Mother. But she herself turned the traitors in for the promise that she and the innocent child be spared the coming wrath...both of Kayle's parents were ambushed and killed and Glana fled with the toddler in the ensuing chaos. Triumphant at her long anticipated return Glana went boldly before the masters of Korriban and presented the child. Her assumptions were correct and the Council's desire for the strength of numbers won out. The child would be trained and Glana returned to her still low position.

Destined for Failure:

At age 6 calm exercise gave way to intensive training. Initial promise seemed to give way to disappointment; outraged by the ineptitude of the student the Council ordered Kayle and Glana be brought before them. In truth, Darth Feiros, a master of Sith intelligence operations had chosen the young boy for the Infiltrator project; he was to be made into an elite spy for the empire...and the best spies were not widely known quantities. The council killed Glana and faked Kayle's execution, instead passing him into Feiros's care. She quickly removed him from Korriban in favor of one of the Core Worlds. Still Kayle's many shortcoming's were inescapable, he displayed only a limited connection to force manipulation.

Lady Feiros was less interested in his prowess with the Dark Side, or lack of it, than with his slightly unsettling ease of "disconnecting" with the Force. With such skill he could have greater ease even deceiving the Jedi and that could be a wildly profitable advantage against the "hypocritical monks." She cultivated this talent at a secret instalation on Avirandel.

What the boy could not master in Force techniques he made up for in mental study. He focused first on what talents he could manage and then honed them to aid his melee combat and marksmanship. By the time he was 12 Feiros had him practicing Jar'kai, but only against the minimal flexibility of advanced combat droid programming. He had never faced a living opponent.

Simultaneously, he received ever advancing lessons in galactic policy, diplomacy and etiquette on nearby Alderaan. At 17, university studies completed, Lady Feiros released Kayle into an unsuspecting galaxy.

Diplomacy:

In less than a year Kayle, sporting a certain charisma and very real degree was snatched up by the GAF, a neutral firm of contract diplomats operating primarily in the Republic with some business in the "lawless" rim worlds. Kayle's tested wit and martial knowledge made him ideal for some of the GAFs more dangerous missions giving him plenty of time to perform his secondary function as Sith spy.

Yet not every mission was dangerous. He spent much time among senators and other dignitaries at parties and hearings on Coruscant and other vital worlds.

The GAF maintained a policy of strict neutrality, managing situations for both the Sith and Republic. It was during this time of service that Kayle began to feel true conflict, never before had his two lifestyles been so close to one another. He had become accustomed to putting on many masks to complete the Councils will, but the truest test of his skill, conviction, and his sanity was only just beginning...
