Early Life

Korriban, homeworld of the Sith, 3,653 BBY.
Korriban, homeworld of the Sith, 3,653 BBY.

Darth Dalyeis was born as Io Vox on Korriban. His father was a Sith and his Mother was a slave. The Sith wanted a son, and ensured this by manipulating the slave's cells with Sith Alchemy. As soon as she had given birth, the Sith killed her on the spot.

Io grew up under the care of medical droids; until the age of three, when he was enrolled in the Sith Academy.

Training

His father's influence got him into the Sith Academy, but Io quickly showed himself to be a powerful Sith Adept. He was strong in the Force and soon rose above all of his peers.

He excelled at Ataru and Jar'kai particularly. He was known for his use of Force Lightning as well, once even turning back an instructor's Lightning and using it against him, resulting in his death. He also mastered the strange combination of switching between Shien grip and regular grip, and Tràkata, making him a confusing and dangerously unstable duelist. He also occasionally enjoyed destroying or stealing an opponent's lightsaber(Sun Djem), torturing them with Force Lightning, then beheading them(Sai Cha), especially if he was fighting a hated enemy.

As he grew and impoved, he became a target for other apprentice hopefuls. But he struck down each one, one after the other. He soon learned to always be on guard, one of the most important lessons for a Sith among brothers.

Eventually, Darth Nylis found him and chose him as an apprentice. Nylis was a famous Makashi duelist and had a reputation for being exceptionally cruel. Nylis's first act as Io's Master was to take his lightsabers away and his second was to dub him Darth Dalyeis. He ordered Darth Dalyeis to murder his father and destroy any connections to his life. Dalyeis obeyed without question, waiting for his father to fall asleep and remorselessly crushing his skull with the Force. He took his father's lightsaber, believing that Darth Nylis had meant him to keep it as his own, and burned his home to the ground.

When he presented the hilt of his father to Darth Nylis, Nylis took it, impaled Dalyeis with it, and destroyed it. Darth Nylis made it very clear that Dalyeis would not keep his own lightsaber. Darth Dalyeis soon found out that Nylis was afraid of being overthrown to the point of paranoid and overcontrolling, therefore would only allow his apprentice to use one of a pair of curved dueling sabers only while training and was strictly forbidden from using any form but Makashi. These rules were never explained to Dalyeis beforehand, and as a result he was regularly beaten, impaled, and tortured with Lightning by Darth Nylis for his actions.

Despite this, Dalyeis defied his Master's strict rules and continued to train his own styles open-handed, in secret. Eventually though, he became a master of Makashi, Dun Möch, and Force Lightning under Nylis and began incorporating them into his uniquely unpredictable style.

Trials

"You defy me? Have you not learned?"

-Darth Nylis

Like all Sith apprentices, Darth Dalyeis participated in trials of skill, where rival Sith would enter battle with one another in order to move forward and gain strength. Despite being unarmed, Dalyeis always managed to survive the encounters, usually by employing Sun Djem and stealing his opponent's weapon.

Notable as his last and most impressive trial, Darth Dalyeis's fight against six other Sith apprentices would go down as one of the best displays of ruthless skill among his generation.

As always, he was unarmed entering the battle. Using a basic Force Illusion, he lured one of the more simple-minded apprentices to where he was hiding in the shadows. Once his foe got close enough, Dalyeis lashed out, tackling his opponent to the ground and breaking his neck while simultaneously tearing his throat out with his teeth.

Now armed with a lightsaber, he proceded to quickly execute and take the lightsabers of the other combatants. The final apprentice gave him a little bit of a fight, but he too ended up on his knees and was beheaded with his own lightsaber.

Darth Dalyeis was lauded for this achievement and was sure his Master would pronouce his training complete. However, upon learning that his apprentice had taken a total of seven lightsabers away from the battle, Darth Nylis panicked and went into a delusional fury. He tortured Dalyeis for hours with Force Lighting, stopping at intervals to heal him so the torture would last longer.

As a result, Dalyeis was left horribly disfigured and marred. His lungs had been charred, most of his hair was burned away and what little that was left had died and turned stark white. His flesh was severely burnt and his eyelids and nose had been burned away by the barrage.

Most of the damage was superficial, but Dalyeis had to wear a mask to filter light and air, and to assist with breathing. His voice became raspy and machine-like. He also had a prosthetic nose attached to cover the gap in his face and to return his sense of smell. The mask enhanced his regular functions, improving his eyesight, hearing, and smell above average humans, and allowed him to survive in oxygen-depleted or toxic areas. He could see multiple light spectrums with his new enhanced eyes and detect distant or faint vibrations with his new ears.

Death of a Master

"This was my Master's Lightsaber, Makashi was his form."

"It sounds as if you cared for him. What an odd Sith you are."

"I rent the flesh from his bones and pried this hilt from his lifeless grasp."

-Darth Dalyeis and Voren Rak

Several months after his torture and mutilation, Dalyeis got into a fight with Nylis. The argument escalated quickly and soon Dalyeis had taken his dueling saber from Nylis and threatened him with it. Nylis drew his own and they entered a long duel.

At first, Dalyeis used Makashi against his Master, but when they reached a stalemate, he switched to Ataru and back and forth between Shien and regular grip. This sudden change threw his Master off balance, and nearly caused his death, but Dalyeis's style wasn't as effective without Jar'kai. Darth Nylis soon began to get the upper hand and destroyed Dalyeis's lightsaber.

Believing in the power of the lightsaber and gloating over Dalyeis's loss, Nylis forgot about Dalyeis's mastery of Force Lighting. Dalyeis suddenly gripped Nylis, nearly crushing him with the force of his hate, and pinned him violently to the wall. He removed his mask so that his Master would know the face of his fate and then proceded to electrocute him with Lightning. He continued to pour his anger into it long after his Master had died and only when he found it hard to stand from the exhaustion did he stop.

Dalyeis claimed his Master's dueling saber as his own and collected the broken remains of his old one. He then raided the store of hilts that he had brought Nylis over the years. He found nearly 70 lightsaber hilts. Among them, he found the first lightsaber he ever made and the first lightsaber he ever retrieved from a fallen opponent. Along with his and his master's curved sabers, he placed these on his belt.

The Sith Council immediately proclaimed him a Sith Lord upon hearing of the death of Nylis. Dalyeis took up his Master's posistion and began his life anew.

Missions

"A deadly asset. Dangerous. Smart. Risky."

-Sith Councillor

Darth Dalyeis was sent on many missions in the war against the Republic. He led his armies to victory on several planets in the Outer Rim. His most notable missions were those were he fought Jedi, because of his obsession with collecting lightsabers.

The first two Jedi he fought were a Jedi Knight and her Padawan. He was on Ord Mantell, directing the assault on the capital city. The Jedi arrived to try and take Dalyeis down, but after he easily dispatched her Padawan with a brutal Sai Cha, the Knight flew into a rage and charged Dalyeis. Doing so, she forgot the core principles of Soresu, her chosen form, and Dalyeis punished her foolishness with a barrage of Chain Lightning. He retrieved both of their hilts and placed them on his belt as a trophy of his first Jedi kills.

The second notable Jedi he fought was one who wielded a silver-bladed lightsaber. He had seen the Jedi fighting from across the battlefield and ordered his troops to move on him. Dalyeis's troopers surrounded the Jedi as he stepped into the makeshift ring. The Jedi employed Makashi during the fight, and Dalyeis matched it, testing his skill directly against the Master. In the end, the Jedi was no match for Dalyeis's dueling mastery and succumbed to several wounds before recieving a decapitating Sai Cha. Dalyeis pulled the hilt from under him and added it to his collection.

His final notable battle was between himself and Voren Rak aboard a shipyard orbiting Yavin. The duel was intense and fierce, nearly destroying the entire hangar. Dalyeis managed to break Voren's lightsaber by forcing it out of his hand with lightning and stomping on it, but Voren replied by hurling a battle cruiser at Dalyeis. Dalyeis ended up retreating, with Voren's useless lightsaber, in an attempt to catch the Jedi in the destruction of the shipyard. Voren escaped, but Dalyeis kept his hilt, reminding himself of the only Jedi to survive a duel with him.

After his participation in the Sacking of Coruscant, he was assigned to the Ruined Jedi Temple, to eliminate returning Jedi and search for hidden information in their archives. He found nothing but common knowledge and a few training holocrons, but managed to kill another six Jedi as they returned to their Temple. After he was finished there he and his squad of Imperial Troopers were ordered to return to Korriban. Until 3,623 BBY, Darth Dalyeis did little but conduct and few minor raids and patrol Korriban space.

Physical Description

"He looks like a rancor's ass. Smells like one too, if he takes his mask off."

-Deceased Sith

Darth Dalyeis was once a handsome young man, but after the torture he recieved at the hand of Darth Nylis, he was left scarred and disfigured. He had no eyelids and no natural nose. He wore a mask to cover his face and aid with breating, hearing, and eyesight, since these funtions were all damaged by the force of the Lightning.

The mask was made of thin layered plates of gray armorplast and black duranium with the support mechanisms sandwiched inside. The eyes of the mask were shaped as slanted rectangles made of reflective yellow transparisteel and there was a thin strip of exposed duranium that ran from the bottom of the nose to the chin with holes for the breating filters. The mask functioned as a faceplate that attached to an open-faced helmet and could be removed in a low light and high oxygen environment. This mask was also flat, which gave some people the impression that Dalyeis was a droid or cyborg.

He always wore a basic Sith cloak, and if in battle, armor. Armored or not, he was always covered from head to toe to conceal his appearance, and only rarely removed his mask. He also had several strips of leather and cloth tied around his waist where he tucked his extra lightsabers, in addition to his regular belt hooks.

Though he mainly focused on lightsaber prowess, Darth Dalyeis was a master of Force Lightning. Due to his training under Nylis, he learned every possible facet of the power and holds a special connection to it.

He was capable of basic Force Ilusions, which he sometimes used to add to the confusion of his dueling style.

He regularly used the Force to enhance his speed and jump height, in order to disorient and evade his opponents and augment his lightsaber skills. He also had knowledge of Force Flight, allowing him to hover for a few minutes at a time.

Finally, he was also skilled at Force Crush, employing it on Darth Nylis just before he electrocuted him. He regularly used this power to punish his troops for insubordination.

The three red lightsabers were Darth Nylis's hilt, Dalyeis's first hilt, and the first hilt he collected from a dead challenger in the Tombs. His first hilt was unreliable and dangerous to wield, so it was more sentimental than anything, being taken from him upon his apprenticeship. His Master's lightsaber was a curved hilt dueling saber, and the other was of a very plain design, not suited for Makashi. This required him to wield his Master's hilt in his right, and the apprentice's hilt in his left, for when he switched styles.

One of the two broken hilts was his own curved dueling saber, destroyed by Nylis. The other was Voren Rak's, a simple, elongated, heavy hilt that once ignited as a bluish-purple blade.

The green hilt was that of the first Jedi he slayed, a padawan. The blue hilt was owned by the padawan's Master, a Jedi Knight. The padawan's hilt was similar to the Knight's, modeled after it's plain and inelegant style.

The last hilt was a silver-bladed hilt elegantly crafted of electrum, signifiying a Jedi Councillor. This was Dalyeis's prize, proving himself a Jedi slayer of the highest caliber.
