Archturus Eltarnian |
Description:
A Jedi Consular who has since severed his formal ties to the Jedi Order and is currently a Blademaster of the secretive order known as the Order of the Crimson Blade.
Appearance:
Archturus Eltarnian stands at 1.78 meters tall and weighs approximately 78 kilograms. He has long, white hair that he usually keeps flowing loose and ice blue eyes that can be both mesmerizing and intimidating. He can usually be seen wearing typical Jedi garb with the occasional set of light armor.
Distinctive Marks:
While Archturus has no distinctive markings, some would argue that his eyes are his most distinctive feature.
Class/Skills/Attributes:
Equipment/Apparel:
Archturus has been known to possess only his garb that denotes him as a member of the Order of the Crimson Blade, a double-bladed lightsaber, a lightsaber pike, and the Destiny Nova. All other equipment belongs to the Order of the Crimson Blade.
Character:
Personality:
Archturus is very opinionated and tends to play the role of observer. Although he is passionate about his beliefs, he oftentimes keeps his thoughts to himself unless he feels a strong need to make them known.
He is known to be stern, yet kind. He possesses a sarcastic sense of humor and has been known to be somewhat of a prankster. To members of the Jedi Order and other members of the Order of the Crimson Blade, he is often referred to as "a quirky wizard." This fact is further reinforced by his white hair and beard along with his choice to carry a lightsaber pike, giving him the appearance of a wizard typically associated with legends and myths.
Relationships:
Archturus has been known to have connections to multiple beings over the years. The following is a brief list and are considered to be some of his most important connections.
Jher-khor Karshuun:
Jher-khor Karshuun was Archturus's master and a member of the Order of the Crimson Blade. He was the one who discovered Archturus on Empress Teta in 38 BTC and took him to Coruscant to be trained as a Jedi. After his initial training as a youngling, Master Karshuun took Archturus as his Padawan. Jher-khor was a strict master, discretely preparing Archturus for the specific trials he would have to face as a member of the Order of the Crimson Blade. After Archturus passed his Knight Trials, the two parted ways and their paths didn't cross again until Master Karshuun met with Archturus and tipped him off about Skarlytt's Place. It was ultimately Master Karshuun that accepted Archturus into the Order of the Crimson Blade. It is rumored that with Master Karshuun's dying breath, he shared a secret with Archturus that he has kept to himself.
Cera Sundreamer:
Cera Sundreamer was a childhood friend and eventual lover of Archturus Eltarnian. She was also a member of the Order of the Crimson Blade who Ascended to the rank of Crimson Zealot. The two shared a natural mental bond through the Force and had very similar personalities. At the age of thirty-one, Cera disappeared while part of the Tenth Crimson Watch. Her whereabouts remained unknown until she resurfaced in 1 BTC when Archturus was sent to investigate a Force cult known as The Balance in the Tion Cluster. There it was discovered that during the Tenth Crimson Watch she fell under Krath influence and began to believe in a corrupt version of the Crimson Creed and formed The Balance, which turned out to be a Dark Side version of the Order of the Crimson Blade. She ultimately met her fate at the hands of Archturus after falling into a smelter on Raxus Prime. The incident sparked a change in Archturus that he never recovered from.
Darth Wyrm:
Darth Wyrm was the Sith Inquisitor that met Archturus as he first touched down on Korriban. Sensing no deception and plenty of raw emotion within Archturus, Darth Wyrm accepted his defection to the Sith Empire and began instructing him in the ways of the Sith. Wyrm gave him the name Archturus the Betrayer, as he had yet to earn his Darth title. He knew Archturus to be a powerful Jedi Consular, and as such had high hopes for his future within the Sith Empire. Wyrm believed Archturus to be the ideal apprentice and knew that he would one day surpass his own abilities. Archturus accompanied him during the Sacking of Coruscant. During a crucial point in the battle, Wyrm ordered Archturus to unleash his power on a room full of innocent civilians. It was at this point that Archturus turned on Darth Wyrm, revealing that he was on a deep cover mission for the Order of the Crimson Blade, and ultimately destroyed Wyrm and a female Sith of unknown connections.
XT-91:
XT-91 is a protocol droid that serves primarily as the archivist for the Order of the Crimson Blade. He has been operational since before the Order's founding and he is maintained diligently by the Crimson Blademasters. Individual ownership is attributed to the leader of the Order of the Crimson Blade. He became the property of Archturus Eltarnian following the Sacking of Coruscant, during which time the Crimson Blademasters were defeated during the assault. It was XT-91 who revealed to the surviving Crimson Templars the protocols for succession should the entire Crimson Council be destroyed; it was also XT-91 who was the sole entity that possessed sufficient knowledge of Archturus's mission to Korriban. As such, he played a significant role in clearing Archturus's name and getting him reinstated into the Order of the Crimson Blade where he was chosen as one of the successors to the fallen Blademasters. XT-91 also serves a secondary directive. He maintains the role of a host, bartender, and bouncer for Skarlytt's Place.
Beliefs:
Goals and Ambitions:
Archturus's goal is to preserve the traditions of the Order of the Crimson Blade while protecting the Jedi Order from all threats, including those from within.
Quotes/Mottos:
"The Force knows what we need, and it provides accordingly. Likewise, it reveals to us the secrets which we are ready to learn; everything in its proper place and time. Such is the way of the Crimson Blade." - Archturus Eltarnian
History:
Early Life:
"I'm sorry, mom, I didn't mean to. I was just playing. Please don't send me away." - Archturus Eltarnian
"It is for your own good, Archturus. Now get on the spaceship with the nice man." - Myndala Eltarnian
Archturus Eltarnian was born 42 years before the Treaty of Coruscant (3,695 BBY) in the city of Cinnagar on what is now known as Empress Teta. His parents were Marchus and Myndala Eltarnian, an affluent couple who ran a lucrative real estate business and were somewhat involved in Tetan politics. Neither Marchus nor Myndala had any history of dealings with the Jedi or Sith, and the concept of the Force was nothing more than an urban legend to them. Therefore, it came as a shock when young Archturus began displaying unusual talents at the age of two.
Archturus's unusual talents combined with the "terrible twos" to keep Marchus and Myndala on their toes. Fearing that they were ill-equipped to raise a child with such abilities, they began to contemplate turning him over to the Jedi Order. The fact that they regarded the Force as mere myth made them hesitate, however. As young Archturus continued to grow, his raw talents began to grow out of control.
Where most young boys are obsessed with toy speeders and starships, Archturus was obsessed with the real thing. In 38 BTC (3,691 BBY), Myndala found herself in a situation where she had to take Archturus with her while she showed a high-profile client a multi-million credit home. She left Archturus outside to fend for himself and that's when he began to use his talents with the Force to use the family speeder as his toy. He had little control of his abilities at this point, and as a result, the speeder was inadvertently hurled through the front wall of the home. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but the sale was ruined and the reputation of the family business never recovered.
In the aftermath of the incident, a man approached the scene and pulled Myndala aside. He identified himself as Jher-khor Karshuun, a Jedi Master. He explained that he had sensed the disturbance from several miles away and he immediately recognized the talent in young Archturus. Jher-khor offered to take Archturus to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant for training. Unsure of what she should do, Myndala told Jher-khor that she would discuss the issue with Marchus and get back to him with their decision. Jher-khor then offered Myndala information on how to reach him.
Three days later, the matter was settled, and Marchus and Myndala met Jher-khor Karshuun at Cinnagar's spaceport and bid farewell to their son. Archturus always suspected that for them, the decision was less a matter of his well-being and more a matter of getting him out of the way while the family rebuilt its reputation.
Arrival on Coruscant:
"It looks kinda like Cinnagar. Do all planets look the same?" - Archturus Eltarnian
"Hardly, young one. Though your home and mine are the same and yet...fundamentally different." - Jher-khor Karshuun
Once Master Karshuun and Archturus touched down on the Jedi Temple's landing pad, Archturus found himself staring out over the endless cityscape and feeling reminded of Cinnagar. Master Karshuun moved in behind young Archturus and placed his arm around the boy's shoulder, offering him some comfort as he guided him toward the door leading to the Temple's interior. Master Karshuun arranged for sleeping quarters to be prepared for Archturus while he awaited for his audience with the Jedi Council.
While waiting, Master Karshuun utilized the time to introduce Archturus to the other Jedi Initiates. Over the course of the next couple of days, Archturus was allowed to spend time with the other initiates, where he quickly befriended a young girl from Tatooine by the name of Cera Sundreamer. The two quickly became close friends due to their similar personalities and love of pranks. While many in the Temple considered their antics to be somewhat of a nuisance, still others welcomed the breath of fresh air.
On the third day, Jher-khor Karshuun came to Archturus and told him that the Jedi Council had summoned the two of them. Master Karshuun instructed Archturus to make himself presentable and to meet him outside of his quarters. Archturus did as instructed, and then he met up with Master Karshuun. From there, the Jedi Master and the boy made their way toward the elevators that led to the Council chamber.
An Audience with the Council:
Young Archturus was incredibly nervous as Master Karshuun led him to the Council chambers.
The Order of the Crimson Blade:
It is believed that Archturus Eltarnian became an Initiate within the Order of the Crimson Blade in the year 19 BTC.
An Old Friend:
Upon his return to the Jedi Temple, Archturus was surprised to find that Jher-khor Karshuun, whom he had not seen since his Knight ceremony, was there waiting for him. After taking some time to catch up, Jher-khor told Archturus of a cantina located within the Crimson Corridor known as Skarlytt's Place. During the course of the conversation, he told Archturus that if he ever found himself there, he should ask Skarlytt for the Blaster Upside-the-Head. He knew that Jher-khor never touched alcohol, so the request seemed unusual at the time. He made a mental note to follow up on the matter during his stay on Coruscant.
After taking care of matters at the Temple, Archturus made the decision to follow up on Jher-khor's statement. Hailing a cab from the Jedi Temple, he made his way to the proper district and took a turbolift down to the appropriate level of Coruscant's Undercity. It wasn't long before he located Skarlytt's Place and entered the establishment. Like many of the facilities this far down, the venue was old. It was also garishly lit with red lighting.
After Archturus took in his surroundings and let his eyes adjust to the light, he made his way to the bar where an attractive human female who identified herself as Skarlytt was working. When he finally managed to get her attention, he followed Jher-khor's instructions and ordered the Blaster Upside-the-Head. When Skarlytt finally brought him the drink, she flashed him a knowing smile. He sipped slowly at the drink; it had a very pleasant taste, full of something unidentifiable yet familiar. Despite his caution, it wasn't long before the effects of the concoction began to set in and Archturus passed out at the bar.Upon awakening, Archturus found himself in a room illuminated only by archaic torchlight. There were others in a semi-circle around him, and his senses were dulled. He couldn't identify the voices, as something was muddling his perception. He reached out with the Force, but realized he lacked the proper concentration.
After successfully passing his captors' interrogation, Archturus found himself inducted into the Order of the Crimson Blade.

A New Threat:
"You must depart at once for Lianna, there you will begin your investigation of the cult known as the Balance." - Crimson Blademaster Jher-khor Karshuun
"Yes, Master Karshuun." - Archturus Eltarnian
Archturus's first assignment as a Crimson Paladin was to investigate rumors of a mysterious Force cult known as The Balance that was said to operate somewhere within the Tion Cluster. Sources indicated that the organization knew way too much about the inner workings of the Order of the Crimson Blade and the Crimson Blademasters wanted to know the source of their knowledge. As instructed, Archturus departed at once for Lianna.
Upon arrival in the Lianna System, Archturus made arrangements to dock at Lianna City. From there, he rented a landspeeder and made his way across the Lona Cranith River and into the city of Lola Curich.
The Balance Revealed:
"This is a battle you cannot win, Cera." - Archturus Eltarnian
"Neither can you, Archturus." - Cera Sundreamer
"Then it would seem that we are at an impasse." - Archturus Eltarnian
Archturus followed his new lead to Raxus Prime, where he brought the Destiny Nova down at Central Station. From there, he headed into the administration facility and began asking questions pertaining to The Balance.

Archturus, the Betrayer:
"I come seeking knowledge." - Archturus Eltarnian
Approximately three months after becoming a Crimson Templar, Archturus left Coruscant without a word to anyone else in the Order of the Crimson Blade. When those who knew him inquired as to his whereabouts and the nature of his departure, the only answer from the Crimson Blademasters was silence.
Unknown to anyone else, Archturus departed Coruscant and went straight to Korriban. Having been detected through the Force, Archturus was met by armed Sith troopers and a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Wyrm. Sensing Archturus's intentions, Darth Wyrm ordered the troopers to stand ready. As Archturus descended the ramp and stepped out of the Destiny Nova, he reached for his lightsaber pike. To the troopers' surprise, but not to Darth Wyrm's, he tossed the weapon to the cold durasteel of the landing platform and stated that he had come to learn the ways of the Sith.

The Eleventh Crimson Watch:
Eight years after the Treaty of Coruscant, Kage Nitro encountered a mysterious informant who tipped him off to a Sith incursion into a Jedi tomb on Katarr. Upon learning of this information, he returned to Skarlytt's Place and informed Archturus of what he had learned. Upon hearing this information, Archturus at once assembled a team and called the Eleventh Crimson Watch.
The team was dispatched to Katarr with all due haste, with Archturus staying behind at the Crimson Tower to coordinate the team's efforts. The Eleventh Crimson Watch resulted in light being shed on a centuries old mystery and enabled the Order of the Crimson Blade to confirm the existence of an old enemy whose existence was spoken of only in myth and legend: the Sovereign Aeons.
The findings of the Eleventh Crimson Watch led to open conflict between the Order of the Crimson Blade and the Sovereign Aeons that have since continued unabated.
